Horned Larks in Thetford

Another small flock of beautiful winter visitors arrived from the north recently. Chris and Nathaniel found them, Kathy and Bill reported their continued presence, and I took some photos of the Horned Larks this afternoon along Stevens Road in Thetford, VT.

Horned Larks breed mainly in Canada.  They are around the Upper Valley mostly in winter.  The photo below gives just a hint of the origin of their “horned” name.

Here are three more photos.

A year ago I took photos of Horned Larks, Lapland Longspurs, and Snow Buntings in Walpole, NH.  If you would like to see them, please CLICK HERE.

Earlier this week I photographed other northern visitors, Bohemian Waxwings.  If you would also like to see them, please CLICK HERE.
