Seeing a Fox Sparrow is a special and rare occurrence. In this area they normally only spend a brief time in spring or fall when they are migrating, if they even stop in the area. Seeing a Fox Sparrow in snow is a very rare occurrence.
We had 1 to 2 inches of snow early Friday morning. To our great delight, the pair of Fox Sparrows we saw Thursday stayed around.
Again, I had to stop working on a fall foliage blog to photograph these large and beautiful sparrows. They really stood out well against the white snow.
They kicked at the snow scratching for food.
Here are a few more of the photos I took of the Fox Sparrows.
As of mid-morning today, the Fox Sparrows are a no-show. They have likely headed south to warmer climates.
