Moving Water along River Road

Immediately after an early spring rain is a nice time to photograph moving water. Helping me get away from my computer, a friend and I spent a few hours Friday afternoon along River Road in Lyme and Hanover.

Our first stop was Hewes Brook in Lyme. We carefully worked our way down to the water’s edge and made some overall photos of the raging brook.

A bit farther upstream was this view.

I like to focus on details. Quite often, simpler photos are better.

We climbed back up the bank and made some photos looking down at the brook.

Our second and final stop was at the Jim and Evalyn Hornig Natural Area in Hanover along Lower Slade Brook.

Again I made an overall photo of the main waterfall at this site before working the scene to get other views.

It was a very pleasant way to spend a few hours. We were glad the sun stayed hidden behind clouds. Photographing moving water in bright sun is very difficult, especially in the woods.
