Early Fog in Etna

The rains of Saturday resulted in beautiful early fog in Etna this morning. I took an almost 4 mile hike, mostly uphill, with a somewhat heavy backpack and still got home before 7:30 AM. Jann hiked with me for half of this trip then took the car while I walked home. I’m training for a 10-day hike later this summer.

The photo above shows Crepuscular rays in the fog from the sun shining through a tree beyond a hill. Would you believe all these lines are essentially parallel. Well they are. The point of origin is 93 million miles away. The illusion is perspective, like railroad tracks appearing to converge in the distance. You can read about this and many other interesting optical phenomena in the sky if you CLICK HERE.

Jann has learned to keep walking when I stop to take photos. You might be able to spot her in the photo above.

The fog in the valley below Moose Mountain was nicely lit by the sun.

I zoomed in to get a closer view of the trees and fog.

Finally, a spider web — we saw many — with a small pond in the background.

All in all a very nice way to start the day.
