Warblers, foliage, and gentians

I stopped yesterday at a small, little-known area in Bradford, NH that is open to the public, or at least always has appeared to be so. It has wetlands, forests, and a nice high meadow. I normally go there for birds, but this time I stopped to take a scenic photo of the wetlands. Not far from my car, I found a large area of Bottled Gentian, a beautiful fall wildflower. Then I flushed a female wood duck that I got very close to before we noticed each other. I looked at the trees just above where the duck had been floating and they were filled with birds.

I hustled back to my car to get a longer lens and was able to spend about 10 minutes photographing a large flock of black-throated green warblers. Mixed in were some yellow-rumps, and a number of common yellowthroats seem to be residents of the area. Here is brief slide show of photos taken within 10 yards of the snag poking into the sky at the left of the photo above. You can’t see the water in this photo, but the wood duck was a few yards from the same snag.
