Bike Loop to New London

I did a short (25 mile) but hilly bike ride yesterday looping from Sunapee to New London and back. I carried my trusty LX7 camera around my neck the whole way. The ease of using it encouraged me to stop several times to take some photos.

First stop, just two miles from Burkehaven Harbor where I started, was the new covered bridge in Sunapee. It is for pedestrians only and not yet open for business. If you can make out the small “dots” on the Sugar River, they are due to insects, not rain.

After navigating the hills north along Route 11 to George’s Mills I turned left toward Springfield — a hilly way to get to New London. Just before crossing under I-89 I was almost attacked by a group of pink flamingos.

A steep uphill took me to Route 114 and more climbing along a rough road with no shoulders. Then a long downhill past Little Lake Sunapee and up again into New London. Something was happening at the New London Historical Society, so I turned in to have a snack, hydrate, and make some photos. Lots of people were bringing arm fulls of “stuff” into a large barn.

I stopped at Spring Ledge Farm in New London and photographed a few of their beautiful flowers on display along the road.

I ended the ride where I started  — that was where my car was parked. Just before I got back I photographed the St. James Church, constructed in 1898. It is one of a handful of beautiful stone churches and chapels in the Sunapee/New London area.
