Jann and I watched a hawk moth work the flowers yesterday at our favorite veggie stand in Sutton, NH. These moths belongs to the family Sphingidae and are known as hawk moths, sphinx moths, or hummingbird moths. Some hawk moths, such as the hummingbird hawk-moth in the photos here, hover in midair like hummingbirds while they feed on nectar from flowers.
