A few Birds at Boston Lot

I made a trip yesterday morning to Boston Lot Lake to check our a Yellow-throated Vireo nest that had been reported. Thanks to Kathy Thompson’s directions, I was able to quickly find the nest. A short time after I spotted the nest I got some poor photos of a Red-eyed Vireo very near the nest with something in its bill. No Yellow-throated Vireo was seen during the hour I was there.

On the way up the hill I got a distant photo of a Pileated Woodpecker. And at the lake, a distant shot of a Green Heron.

While waiting for the vireo to appear I was well entertained by a Common Yellowthroat.

At the edge of the field just northwest of the lake, a Wood Thrush was singing.

While I was photographing it, a nearby Chestnut-sided Warbler begged for equal attention.

I got some poor photos of a flycatcher with nest material and what appeared to be an immature redstart moving behind branches. The morning was mostly overcast and cold, and, until I headed back to my car, I was all alone with the birds.
