Rainbow over Lake Sunapee

The rain was just ending Saturday morning, the twelfth day of May, and the sun was rising.  The clouds to the southwest were very colorful.  And there was a spectacular full rainbow. Mount Sunapee is at the left edge of the left part of the arc.

I hurried to take some photos, but the show persisted.  It lasted over 20 minutes.

Ten minutes after my first photos, it was clear that the left side was a double rainbow. And the main arc had brightened dramatically. Notice how the tone and hue changes as one moves across the rainbow.

I made multi-photo panoramas because I could not fit the whole rainbow in the frame with the lens I had on the camera I grabbed.   And I feared the rainbow would fade so I did not want to take time to change lenses.  Plus stitched panoramas provide lots of resolution if I ever want to print these big.

The close up below shows Mount Sunapee between the main and secondary rainbows.

I move to include some foreground.  Again one can see how the tone changes crossing the rainbow.

After 18 minutes the top of the arc had disappeared, but both ends were still brilliant.
