It is not all that unusual to snow in April, but we sure got some wet heavy stuff April 16 — a bit over 8 inches worth. Down in the valley of the Connecticut River there was barely a dusting though there was enough near the golf course for a cross-country skier. This day was certainly unlike the beautiful days we had the First Third of April.
The snow on our deck had an interesting fuzzy texture.
The photos above were taken at 5:35 AM. The scene is lit by our yard lights. Predawn or overcast light can be very blue, although we rarely notice the blue hue.
At 7:00 AM the scene looked much whiter as seen below.
The morning before the storm, a beautiful Purple Finch paid us a short visit.
That same morning the clouds in the east foretold what was heading our way.
Still early morning of the snow day, I made a six-photo panorama of our yard.
Here is a piece of our yard.
A Tufted Titmouse ventured out in the snow.
I wanted to see what it looked like down in the valley, but first I checked out my driveway. I decided to give it a go. I had to slowly move past some overhanging snow-covered branches.
Before the long downhill into Etna village I paused to take this photo.
It was snowing along Route 5 in Norwich and Thetford and along River Road in Lyme and Hanover, but the road surfaces were just wet. Below is from Kendall Station Road in Norwich. You should be able to see the snow coming down.
Looping around to Lyme, I paused briefly for a photo of a snowy Grant Brook.
In Hanover, the field across from the golf course was just barely covered with snow. But a skier took advantage of it.
You can see him a bit better in this photo looking toward the golf course. He had a red mask on his face.
Heading home I could not resist a red barn.
Exiting my car, I spotted a Mourning Dove.
Two and a half hours later it was still around, and it was still snowing lightly.
