Mink Brook, which flows through Etna, NH before emptying into the Connecticut River just south of downtown Hanover, has many branches. On April 24, I explored two of these that originate on the western slopes of Moose Mountain. None of these spots are visible from the road — all took some bushwhacking to reach.
The photo below was taken a short distance north of the Dana Cemetery. It shows false hellebore (Veratrum viride) plants emerging.
Another branch flows north of Moose Mountain Road where I took these three photos.
On the south side of Moose Mountain Road, another branch drains the beaver pond on Moose Mountain. I consider this the true origin of Mink Brook, although for some reason Google Maps does not. Here are three photos from two days ago.
Upstream of these three photos is the remains of an old mill on Moose Mountain. I photographed this area in 2013. The photo below is a composite of 17 individual photos. A 50×30 inch print of this image hangs in the main conference room of the Hanover Conservancy.
If you CLICK HERE or click the above image you will jump to a page with two other photos of the old mill site. That page also has links to a site where you can zoom way in, pan around, and explore each photo in fine detail.
I hope you make time to visit the page with the Panoramas.
