We have the normal expected visitors to our feeders — chickadees and squirrels — but recently an unexpected one came. He (or she) arrived as the sun was setting and sat watching the feeder. A beautiful barred owl. I hope to see it again. I keep looking.
I spent a short time one dull morning recently photographing birds flying away from our feeder. Here are photos of a black-capped chickadee and a white-breasted nuthatch.
Sitting directly below the feeder was a red squirrel. This is where the picky birds drop a lot of seed. The feisty red squirrel guarded its spot. Here he is taking on a much larger gray squirrel and chasing it away.
