Rainy Day Photography, November 16, 2016

Yesterday was dark, dreary, and drizzly.  It was a great morning for photography.  What better way to heal the soul and renew the spirit.  See if something nice would come from foul weather in these crazy times.

Actually, overcast days are great for letting colors shine through. Contrast is low and colors can really pop.  I photographed for two hours along a loop to the south of Hanover:  Plainfield, Meriden, Cornish, Windsor, and Hartland.

I’m not one of those photographers who searches far and wide for sugar houses and red barns to photograph. But I seemed to keep stumbling onto them yesterday.

I’m more into patterns in nature, curved roads, and moving water.

In Plainfield I found some Hooded Mergansers swimming back and forth.  They knew I was present but did not flush.

At the Blow-Me-Down area of Cornish some Mallards were disturbed by my presence even though I was not very close. They are common but still beautiful birds.

I crossed the covered bridge into Windsor Vermont and headed north on Route 5.

In North Hartland there are two covered bridges spanning the Ottauquechee River just before it enters the Connecticut.  If you look closely you can see the rain. I recalled swimming below the nearby dam many years ago.

So the next time it rains, defy the weather, ignore what others might think, and get out and take some photos.
