A bit of birding and photography in Sunapee this morning produced a few expected birds, and a surprise. While working a warbler, a Broad-winged Hawk flew in, perched high in a tree, then departed.
Here is the warbler I was photographing when this happened, a Black-throated Green Warbler.
I was also able to photograph a Pine Warbler. It was singing almost as constantly as the loud and monotonous Red-eyed Vireo.
I finally found the Red-eyed Vireo just as it grabbed a caterpillar. It swung the caterpillar in a way that allowed the caterpillar to latch onto a branch. It took a second and several photos for the vireo to pull it loose.
Here are a few more photos from the morning.
