This morning my wife and I took a hike in Newport, NH. We were walking at the edge of woods near a stream. I only got good photos of one bird, but what a bird it was.
I think the Northern Parula is one of the most beautiful warblers, and this one was extremely cooperative. It put on a show singing, scratching, and even sticking its wing between its legs.
At one point the parula got low in the shadows.
Then it came up in the sun and sang for us.
The parula had an itch on its neck that needed scratching.
Then it sang for us again.
It was beautiful no matter where it sat.
The parula flew to a branch and got part of its wing caught between its legs. Notice in this sequence it stands on three different parts of the branch without freeing its wing. When it flew, it looked fine.
Here is the Northern Parula on a branch in a spot the shows its beauty well.
For those who might care about such things, all photos were shot handheld with a Nikon 200-500mm lens on a D500.
