Pseudo-HDR pans

I took this photo along Great Brook in New London, NH this morning. Unfortunately the sun was shining and the contrast was very high. I applied a pseudo-HDR pan technique that I sometimes use to compress contrast range and create a wider view than otherwise possible.

I made 4 horizontal exposures planning to stitch them into this “pan” image. However, I did not lock my exposure but rather let the camera choose the best exposure for each of the shots. Compared with a locked/compromise exposure the bottom shots were lighter and the top darker. After adjusting the raw images in ACR (in Bridge) I merged them to produce this result.

Since I also focused each shot at a different distance, the image has more depth of field and sharpness than I might otherwise get.
