I been spending a bit of time lately photographing a few common avian species to prepare for a small teaching article I will publish late next month as an NEPG Blog. My previous Blog was also part of this project.
Red-breasted Nuthatches haven’t been present near my home for several years, but a pair has been around regularly this season. Common Redpolls have yet to make an appearance this year; some years flocks of 100 or more hang around for many weeks consuming copious amounts of sunflower seeds. This year a pair of Tufted Titmouse has been conspicuously present, unlike some past years when they have only rarely appeared. They are one of Jann’s and my favorite birds.
Of course, Black-capped Chickadees are present in considerable numbers. Then there are the pigs of the feeders, the beautiful, smart, and wary Blue Jays.
Here are a few of the photos I took on the first two days of the new year.
