Sunsets in Motion

Everyone knows you need to hold your camera still — or better yet use a tripod — for sharp shots of colorful sunsets. But moving your camera while the shutter is open can also yield pleasing results. I use low ISO, set my aperture small, and shoot away, making  lots of images — most get discarded — and enjoy the experience. Many images will be flat, lacking contrast, so a boost in Adobe Camera Raw or PS is often helpful.

Here are some I made July 25 and 26, 2013 with a lake in the foreground, low hills in the distance, and the colorful sky above.
