Union Village Dam area

Over the years I have been to Union Village Dam area many times:  hiking and swimming with Jann and our daughters, xc-skiing, mountain biking, photographing, and birding with the Mascoma Audubon.

Ompompanoosuc River from Mystery Trail

The Ompompanoosuc River flows through this area, and its rapids along the Mystery Trail were a favorite clothing-optional swimming spot for Dartmouth students in the 1970s. These rapids are a good spot to find Louisiana Waterthrush.

Chutes along the Mystery Trail

Although there are a number of entry points, my favorite is on Buzzell Bridge Road off Route 113 in Thetford.  There are birds along the road in and many near the marsh across the river near the Mystery Trail.

There are woods and fields so the habitat is varied.

Here are some of the species I have photographed in the UVD area.
