The Trescott Ridge Wetlands Area in Etna, NH conjures up a primordial age. It is a fantastic example of a red maple – black ash swamp.  The swamp is reached by hiking through the Hayes Farm Park at the Etna Library. Hike up through the King Bird Sanctuary and then down one of several paths through the woods to the west. If you wish you can complete the loop by taking Woodcock Lane back, or simply retracing your steps.

Of course, there are birds in the wetlands. This is an Ovenbird, a warbler that builds its nest on the ground. And yes, not all the ground is wet.

There are several trails one can take in the wetlands. It can be an interesting place to explore.

Near the Woodcock end of the main trail I found some marsh marigolds.

And a fox kit.

Here are a few more photos from this very interesting wetland.
