Day 1

We departed Cuiaba, stopped along the Transpantaneira a few times, and arrived at Pousada Piuval lodge for two nights.

Day 2

Exploring the huge lodge area we found Giant Anteaters, Hyacinth Macaw, Sunbitterns, and Jabiru Storks, and many other interesting species.

Day 3

We arrived at Aymara Lodge and immediately found a beautiful Blue-and-yellow Macaw. We also saw, among many others, Crested Caracara, more Sunbitterns, and a Yellow Anaconda..

Day 4

A pair of Hyacinth Macaw were nesting in a tree very near to our rooms.  We took a boat ride along a small river and hiked through one of the rare forested area of the Pantanal.

Day 5

At our third lodge, Rio Clara, we took a boat ride and saw Cocoi Heron and Ringed Kingfishers grabbing fish.  The Milky Way was stunning above a Jabiru nest.

Day 6

After a morning of bird photography we departed our third lodge for Porto Jofre and Jaguars.  We stopped along the way and photographed a pair of Pygmy Owls.

Day 7

Our very first Jaguar sighting was a family of three.  What a rare way to start three 11 plus hour days in a boat photographing Jaguars, Giant Otters, and many beautiful birds

Day 8

So many highlights our second day on the rivers near Porto Jofre: a Jaguar mother and cub, a Jaguar with an injured mouth who is thriving, and a very regal Jaguar with a sad story.

Day 9

Our third day with Jaguars began with one in tree and then resting with crossed paws. We saw a Jabiru Stork gathering nest material and many kingfishers.

Day 10

We left the Jaguars and headed back north to photograph kingfishers fishing, giant otters, Sunbittern flying, and a very cute Ocelot.

Day 11

We saw Howler monkeys, beautiful Amazon Motmots, Green Iguana mating, and a Brazilian Tapir in the river we boated.

Day 12

After photographing a family of Capybara, we moved to our last lodge and photographed at a wildlife pool until after dark.

Day 13

In the morning we photographed Toucans,  Chestnut-eared Aracari, and a strange and interesting Giant Potoo. At sunset Black Skimmers.

Day 14

On our final day of a great trip, we photographed more Toucans, and I saw the only warbler of the trip.
