Clearing Storm

The bright red on the horizon on June 30 was just the preamble. The real show came the next night after 3 days of much-needed rain.

It was a clearing storm. The rain moved out leaving behind great sets of clouds and the all-important sun punching through near the horizon. The dramatic light and colors lasted for 90 minutes as I watched with increasing awe. The night  was pleasantly warm and the bugs few.

The colors changed throughout the event. The picture show started with iridescent clouds and progressed to a great yellow-blue complimentary color scene.

Just after 7:00 PM the first day of July, the clouds turned iridescent as small water droplets individually scattered light back down to earth causing colors to appear, change, and fade.

The iridescent clouds lasted only a short time. Then the atmosphere sculptured the clouds as they changed and mutated. Many shapes and creatures were hidden there for those who care to explore, imagine, and dream.

The sky began to take on the yellow hues of a setting sun. The sun peeked through and created a nice sun star.

I created some panoramas of the developing mosaic.

I moved to include some foreground in the scene.

The yellow-orange arc of clouds over the blue sky fascinated me. I took many photos between 8:20 and 8:30. Here are a few.

It was a nice way to begin July.
