Ragged Mountain Hike with SRKG

Last Saturday six of us hiked SRKG Trail 9 over Ragged Mountain. This is one of the more challenging hikes of the Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway. But it is a great hike, one of my favorites, that I have done over a half dozen times. The photo above shows Ragged in the fog from Winslow State Park.

About 90 minutes into our hike, we got a distant view of Mount Kearsarge.

Somewhat later I found some Polypodies — rock-loving ferns — in the shade.

We reached the top of the main chair lift of the Ragged Mountain Resort and stopped for an early lunch. But first I hiked down a slope to the right of the lift and got a great view of Danbury Bog. This was the first time I saw it from Ragged.

I knew that Danbury Bog could be seen from somewhere on top of Ragged because Ragged can be clearly seen from the bog, as shown in the October, 2016 photo below.

After lunch we hiked downhill toward Proctor and then climbed again to reach a spot near the actual summit of Ragged Mountain. Nearby was a great viewpoint across to Kearsarge and down to Cole Pond. I got a photo of our group at this spot.
