Mink Brook Sanctuary

DW137--Bluets-Along-Mink-Brook--(2)I birded and photographed along Mink Brook in Hanover, NH yesterday. I saw a nice variety of birds including two I have not seen in Hanover before, a Canada Warbler and a Prairie Warbler. Unfortunately the morning was very cloudy and the light was dim. I try to avoid using an ISO over 800 on my camera, but I was forced up to 1600 and 3200. In fact two-thirds of the photos here were shot at 3200. Even then, my most common shutter speed turned out to be 1/125 sec.

Two separate slide shows follow. The first is devoted to the star of the morning, a beautiful male Canada Warbler. I never heard it sing, but it sure was busy foraging.

The second show presents some of the other birds I photographed including, in order, Wood Ducks, two Black-and-White Warblers, a female and two male American Redstarts, two photos of a Prairie Warbler, three of a female Black-throated Blue Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Eastern Phoebe, and a Gray Catbird. Other warblers I photographed but with very marginal quality were Wilson’s Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, and Ovenbird.
